2 Hour Live Session with Isabel Fletcher

£40

All sessions are recorded and made available for a week following the course.

This also includes times for any feedback questions.

IN A 2 HOUR LIVE SESSION:

  • A woven basket filled with yarn, fabric scraps, and sewing scissors on a wooden surface.

    Skills Explored

Introduction to working with waste and an outline of workshop techniques.

From appliqué and fabric button-making to quilting, Isabel will lead a series of techniques exploring the endless potential of textile waste. She will demonstrate how considered placement, shape, colour, and stitch can be combined to create beautifully intricate textiles that challenge the perceptions of waste. This workshop is suitable for both complete beginners and those with sewing experience.

  • A neatly stacked pile of folded towels and cloths in cream, beige, pink, and coral colors against a white background.

    Notes on Fabrics

It is a good idea to have a range of weights for the techniques we will be working on.

Weights can range from thicker upholstery fabrics to fine cotton shirting. Old clothing, bed sheets and pillow cases also work well if you don’t have many fabrics.

Think about how your fabrics work together as we will be using them to arrange collage compositions.

  • Several vintage wooden thread spools with different colored threads on a fabric surface.

    Materials

Fabrics. These can be any scraps or pieces leftover from other projects, worn out clothing, or bigger sections of fabric you can cut up.

A variety of regular and thicker sewing thread.

Hand sewing needles to suit your thread.

    Scissors.

Circular template (eg a large roll of masking tape).

    Iron and ironing board (optional).
